Having much on my mind, many hopes and desires, and a growing assurance that time is not on my side, I turn to you, my readers and – I hope – new-found friends, to offer a hand.
My aim is to make the world a little better, a little happier and a bit more decent than the one into which I was born, in which we presently find ourselves. Hence, these notes.
In the coming days and months, you’ll see ideas and speculations about all manner of things; notions, for example, about the foundation of the universe, thoughts on establishing proper government, a proposal for a revolutionary mode of transportation, a plan to harness the power of nature, and a bit of whooptidoodle, because Steinbeck’s readers felt a bit of whooptidoodle is important every now and then,* and so do I. In that light, I’ll start by including in each posting a few chapters of a whimsical novel – Elsewhere – until it runs out and the aliens are happy again.
Expect abject – but honest – groveling for expertise, careful thoughts, assistance and, inevitably, money. Some of my hopes, plans and projects will require the collaboration of wise minds, fiscal heft and a fair amount of solid support. I am, after all, wishing to make my native country and the whole world better; that’s not a one-person job.
Yours to chime in as you wish, of course; I only have words to harness in my favor, sometimes merely to doodle a whoopti.
Oh, as to frequency, the present notion is to have something fresh each Monday morning. We’ll see how that works out, eh?
* In Sweet Thursday, Steinbeck acknowledged such and did it. Read Cannery Row first, ‘cause it came first. I suggest Tortilla Flats after those two, providing they please you.
